For the sake of offering my own two cents on the situation…
I’m not against the suspension for taking part in the exploit in and of itself, though I’ll express annoyance at the time and duration of it locking players out of the last stretch of this weeks arena and coliseum challenger league and would have preferred that it occur AFTER the next week had started, but that’s its own thing.
In regards to my personal motive in taking part in it, it was mostly to see if it worked, afterwhich I then decided to see how far it could go, and I returned to my home guild as soon as I was aware a warning was sent out (to that end I’m also not entirely sure I RECEIVED said warning myself, but it’s possible I managed to miss it while going through my mail.)
I can’t say things for definite regarding everyone ELSE’S motives, but a few recurring thoughts have been made.
A: a protest against the current contest lengths.
The crux of the argument there is more in terms of how whales interact with the contests and how the longer they go on the more money people are forced to spend if they want to remain in a high rank, personally not too fussed on this as I never really got that high ranking in non-guild contests anyway and usually just used the extra time to more leisurely get the progress rewards.
B: a protest on the price of deals.
The price of a deal, essentially, gives a monetary value to ingame items. Because of this, some players consider some such deals to be overpriced. An example that’s relevant to the exploit is that a relatively common deal is a mod upgrade deal that gives 200 armor, normal cirt and purple upgrade pieces, priced usually around 50 bucks (if my memory is correct there), and the 3rd tier of the current contest offered the same.
I think it worth noting that a large portion of players who used the exploit would not consider the upgrade deal to be worth the price it was being sold at.
And C: per the exact wording of the terms of use, there wasn’t a violation.
Admittedly, this is ignoring that there is a clause in the ToU that essentially reads “If we consider what you’ve done is wrong, then it’s wrong” but that in and of itself is something that isn’t necessarily fair without prior warning.(for instance, if PB suddenly decides that using 1-hero defensive lines in arena is agaisnt the spirit of it by denying the chance for bonus points and decides to suspend players who do so without giving them a chance to rectify their team). Other than that, every part of the exploit is, for the most part, a reasonable conclusion of how the rules can be interpreted, if a contest exceeds 24 hours, and there is a 24 hour period where you are unable to contribute to a guild contest when you join a guild, then it’s valid for someone to join a guild and gain the rewards from that that guild earns after that 24 hour period.
In all honestly, I’m kinda surprised that particular exploit wasn’t attempted before, and in fact, I had outright assumed it wouldn’t have worked by virute of the progression rewards being specifically 1-per-player, regardless.
But those are just my thoughts on it, you can all feel free to agree, disagree or ignore as you wish.
