Why so? If I get Hamm to Red and get his Red Skill, he will become a back line and he will become slightly useless, if I use a Tank Hero, which I use Tanks all the time. So maybe not Hamm.

Because you only mentionated that he becomes a back liner but not that he heals and gives reflect to the frontmost ally, which is pretty useful for a tank. He also gains 200 energy every 2.25 seconds which means that he will definitely active his white skill every 11.25 seconds (which I don´t think that will be the case because he gains energy from other sources and will activate it faster). And, well the pig slam thing may become useful.
I´m not an expert of the game, but Hamm is useful.
