[Discussion] Raya and the Last Dragon

Ok! It would be a month off belated birthday watch for me! Now I just need to convince the parents

I read a lot about it and I just choke it up to the fact the media has to complain and criticize about everything. Some of it I can understand, but it is a movie so I do not think people can expect so much from any studio.

For example, I agree they should have hired more SEA actors for more accurate representation.

What I do not understand however, are the complaints about how they did not communicate the many different cultures very well, especially towards the end. I have to disagree with that because I thought that was done very well and a few of the many SEA countries were represented. Of course not every one could be.

Now by no means is it my place to say what is wrong and right about this because I am not Southeast Asian, but I hear those that are have mixed opinions.

I’m a Southeast Asean, and honestly i think they actually represent the cultures quite well, even if they are mixed, i love the varied cultures between the lands. And i like the fact that they use some of the traditional music instruments between the countries for the scores.

You just can’t seem to stay away from this place. You know you love us.

Awesome review. I’m really happy to finally find someone that likes Sisu. She’s always looked cool to me, but I know others have said otherwise. Respectfully but still, she seems hilarious so that’s awesome to hear that you enjoyed her as a character. Looking really forward to watching it myself. Mainly for Boun, lol, he sounds incredibly iconic as a character.

Yes. Thank you @Imagineer_V, because I may be able to celebrate my B-Day with friends now!

I heavily related to her along with Raya and Namaari. She was just so hilarious but more importantly wise and powerful. Those are probably the 3 best words to describe her.

Boun… meh. He was not that memorable or iconic IMO.

:musical_note: What can I say except your welcome :musical_note:

I honestly have a plan to write a hopefully spoiler-free review for this movie here on the forums. I honestly think that Imagineer’s review is already a good review, but i have planned to make my own. Is it a good idea?

Extremely happen to hear that. I can imagine I’ll definitely be bawling at some of her lines. Sometimes humor can actually add to wisdom, look at Yoda in ESB or Oogway from Kung Fu Panda. Super happy you liked her. :+1:

And totally @RulerXandra, the more reviews of the movie, the better. I would love to see what you would have to say about it.

And I mean, yeah, people most likely exaggerated about how cool he is. After all, he is just a shrimp boat owner kid, lol. :upside_down_face:

What did you guys who saw the film think of the songs/music?

Weird of you to assume I was not going to. I liked her before she was cool.

There were no songs with lyrics until the end, but I liked the credits one. It was alright. The music though… I loved it. It fit really well with the story and seemed accurate to the culture.

I would say it’s a bop! I wouldn’t stop listening because of the sound and music which sounds really southeast Asian

even thought it’s not a musical but the next film after Raya is encanto which will be a musical movie

Raya did not have to be a musical. Encanto is something I am very excited for and it is not a princess movie and it is going to be Disney Animation’s 60th picture. Music written by Lin Manuel Miranda. It will be great.

Honestly, I’m kind of glad to hear this. Disney music is obviously always great, but from the trailers, Raya and the Last Dragon never seemed like the kind of movie that should have a lot of those songs in it.

Well, although she seems good to me, I know many do not particularly like her.

They have been respectful of their opinions though and I appreciate having that honest criticism. So I just felt happy to see such a positive view of her character and one that relates to her which is awesome.

I usually be afraid of some criticism reviews on the films if there good, bad, or mediocre which doesn’t matter if your fine continuing watching movies

Actually, there are some criticisms about the movie, especially the voice cast.

I do not look at reviews and like to form my own opinions on my own.

Yeah, Schaffrillas Productions is who I usually go to, he’s great, fair and hilarious. A perfect combination for a YouTuber reviewer.

His review had good points and some points that he said he loved and he rated it 6/10 so he didn’t completely hate it, he just offered some more constructive criticisms about it as he would as a YouTuber/movie critic.

I don’t watch him cause he cuss a lot but I did one time from the Tamatoa reanimate which sounds cool even though he talks about dreamsworks, Pixar’s and even disney and he I really loves tamatoa which relates to him🤷‍♂️
