. â = b² -4ac
. = 7² -4.1.(-60) = 289
. => ââ = â289 = 17

A - And the real math would be this (I think):
X - X2 -7X - 60 = 0
X - X 2 -7X = 60
X2 -6X = 60
X2 = 60 + 6X
X = 60/X + 6
X - 60/X = 6
1/60 * (X - 60/X) = 6/60
1/60X - X = 0.1
-59/60X = 0.1
X = 0.102
It has been some time since I have done this, so no guarantees itâs 100% correct.
B - But they were solving the discriminant not solving for X. Theyâve edited it so itâs correct now.
Also the X out the front wasnât actually part of the equation, X should be -5 and +12.
X² - 7X - 60 = 0
(X + 5)(X - 12) = 0
X + 5 = 0 and X - 12 = 0
X = -5 and X = 12
If it was like you said thatâs not how youâd solve it. Youâd have to use the quadratic formula, itâd end up being X = -5.307 and +11.307.
