I thought that one was weird (Bao), but you like what you want to like.
How was it weird? It was a beautiful metaphor about empty nest syndrome. And as an Asian American son, it really resonated with me. One of the first shorts I very nearly cried at.
Maybe the ending was weird, but it was part of the metaphor. The mother didn’t want her son to leave. Many people didn’t understand it but for me, the short made me feel a lot of feelings and want to go hug my mom.

I got the metaphor. It was a sweet story when I think about it and I’m glad you resonated with it, but the surface part of the short (i.e. the physical story that you actually watch) just seemed very unusual and I just wasn’t a big fan of it. I guess the most off-putting part for me was when the mother ate her dumpling son.
