The most likely reason why we have Discourse is to save time on the dev’s end. If they had to make their own forum, that would take awhile, not to mention glitches that arise. Plus, we have achievements and can access it from PC. What’s not to like?

lol, that was my impression, i coulda mis interpreted
he said “this” so my first thought was forums
but it would be neat if the forums and wiki had an app… not that it’s hard to open the browser and go to either page… regardless… I can’t wait to see what batch of characters get added next 
edit: jus noticed your reply The_Eavesdropper, and that is a very valid point I overlooked… it would be such a drag developing and maintaining an app, when they already got this Discourse page. not to mention regular maintenance for the game itself… I can only imagine…
