Add an opt out option for surge

Hi all.

Love the game, and have been doing surge for a while know - and it’s pretty clear this is the biggest determinant for whether members are kept in guilds or not.

I’ve seen some really good members leave the game over the course of playing, and simply because they want to ‘play less’.

The thing is, many high guilds don’t have the capacity to deal with that. You can have a member who has been excellent for 3 + months. Checks in daily, surges daily. But all of sudden they have a week off, maybe due to illness, school or work getting busy…allova sudden they are a huge liability to the guild - especially if they are one of the highest power players.

The game should have a system in place that allows these players to ‘opt out’ of surge, they will be unable to attack, and their weight won’t be applied to the rest of the guild.

The opt out feature should be limited to the player themselves, and champions or leader. Not a veteran or officer ability.

I think this would be a fantastic feature to help keeps guilds together, I hate seeing seasoned players booted just because of brief inactivity - it’s not right. But if you carry players who are briefly inactive you make it harder for everyone else in the guild.

Guild is about teamwork, not turning against long term members for a hiatus for whatever reason.

I believe that you should have a pretty balanced guild…Idk what your is like but if all the people are approximately the same lvl then yah that could work…maybe…

Being able to opt out would still hurt the guild due to less people attacking, since the requirements for completion are still the same even at less power.

Also, most folks have a problem with unexplained absence. If you let any decent leader know in advance you won’t be on for a specific reason they are usually ok with it. Just not logging on or doing surge without saying anything for days makes it seem like you quit.

If the reason is because you just want to play less, then you should find a casual guild, there are thousands. Competitive guilds want members that are active and participate, otherwise it’s not fair to the rest.

Also realistically, people get busy yes, and missing one day can happen. But saying you can’t find maybe 10 minutes at any point in the day, for multiple days at a time, is usually an excuse. If people really wanted to play, cut that 10 minutes out of the time they spend on Facebook or other social media, 10 minutes before they go to bed, etc.

Is usually the ones who have lost a desire to play that say they are too busy

You make some good points Reapers, you still need to clear the same number of regions, but the power of those regions would be lower with fewer players - meaning others can clear more with fewer characters. That somewhat balances that out.

For me, I’m all in and have no intention of using a feature in the foreseeable future. But I’ve known some great players from this game already in the 6 or so months I’ve been playing. And life happens, one of my old guild mates just who had a child recently and obviously wants to put their time towards that, they had to leave as the game doesn’t allow them to ‘take it easy’ for 2 or so weeks until they get through birth and settle in their child at home.

Or teenagers going through a hard block of exams, they need less distractions for 1-2 weeks to get the study in and focus. But after that they will be back.

There are some other games out there that offer opt out functionality so such members aren’t forced out of guilds.

This game is quite ruthless in that you need to be all in, all the time or it makes it harder for everyone else.

But the fact is life doesn’t allow players to be all in 7 days a week all the time.

Keeping players in guilds they love will help them maintain the love for the game, which in turn helps boost player retention and as ultimately; boost sales.

I like this idea. It’s clan wars in COC. They match clans based on powers and other factors. They should also minimize the number of district to be cleared once reaching a certain amount of players opting out (power should also be included in the equation)

I would like something like this for even a smaller guild. My guild has about half the members who don’t want to surge, but I dont want to kick them just for that.

So what you get is a “relaxed guild” that is my guild too. We barely finish the sutge each day XD my guild is laid back and so it will stay i suppose. There is no reason we should be looking at leader boards so we arent.
