Dec 19 patch timing

The timing on todays patch was very poorly planned to say the least. I understand the desire to get patches out and into the community but, to take down the servers for a patch involving guild wars with only 15 minutes left in the current guild war and then have it unavailable showed a lack of understanding for your game events and how the community plays the game based on the timings and events you have created.

The last half hour of Guild War is used making changes and updates to the next guild war line up for the guild, completing last attacks and using extra attacks in a way that can change a guild war completely by earning the room clearing points, updating and setting individual player line ups for their heros and doing hero upgrades and badges so that the player line ups for guild wars are correct.

In short you have probably affected the outcome for 2 different guild wars for some guilds by the timing of the patch. Guild wars are competative events and doing something that so radically can effect the results of the current and the next battle based on the timing of your maintenance is upsetting and frankly shows a surprising ignorance of what goes on in your own game during the last hour or so of guild war.

This would be similar to shutting down for maintanence during the last 45 minutes of a surge or a server wide event. Please do better at considering the effect of your timing on the scheduled game events and what goes on during those times, as of right now I question if the people at the top making decisions give any thought to player exerience and the results of the actions and the timing on when things happen.

I know the timing of the update this morning was in no way ideal, but we had to get it out before the next matchmaking. The update was only to fix a bug that afflicted server 10 earlier this week. Their war didn’t finish correctly on Monday, so they were out of war for the day until we could fix it. We wanted to prevent this from happening on these other servers.

Originally, this fix was bundled with the 1.6.4 update, which was intended to be released yesterday or today. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the app wasn’t approved for release in time and we had to do an emergency fix.

If the intention was to get it out before the patch that is understandable, but then it should have been done after start of new server day, not in the last half hour of the current war for all servers. The overall disruption is significant the timing in my opinion effected two guild wars, the last one and this one for a number of guilds.

In the last hour of guild wars that is when you finish the current war and prepare your lines for the next war. This involves setting up your heros badges and editing lines, as well as any last minute upgrades for individual players. At the guild level it means changing car assignments and using perks before the end of the War to improve your overall strategy and capabilities. By rushing to do it immediately before the end of a Guild War cycle you made a decision that has a fairly significant impact. I can only hope that the patch has no unintended consequences or bugs in it that will compound the error of timing effects with other greater problems making the decision not only seem rash but, ill-advised and compounding the mistake and it’s effects.
