Diamond Chest Disappointment

The free diamond chests have been pretty disappointing, to the point I felt they were worthless. I still decided to try buying a 10 pack to see if the free chests just had worse outcomes. I got Violet and Mike and was pretty pleased so I got another 10. My “guaranteed hero” was another violet. Now if I had a lot of heroes that would be fairly likely, but I have 8. the defaults and my free 2 star, plus those two I got. But I understand bad luck happens. The real insult was that I got 7 hero chips for violet. it costs 10 to unlock a 1 star hero. When somebody has bad luck they’re probably unhappy, so adding in that little bit of insult is just unbelievable. Would giving the full 10 really bankrupt this game?

As a note the rest of my chests from that 10 were pretty worthless. Not a single thing worth the cost of 1 chest.

We know from the market 1 chip is 40 diamonds. So why is 2 random chips worth 288? That’s even ignoring the incredibly likely outcome of getting random upgrade materials.

Please, fix the diamond chests. I’ve bought 20 of them, opened 3 free ones, and gotten a whole lot of disappointment and frustration.

Totally agree that Diamond Chest is terrible. Combining that with a fact that it’s pretty much the only way for most of us to get new heroes just does it for me. I have 14 heroes right now, for now it’ll do

It definitely wouldn’t “bankrupt the game” to give 10 chips but I can guarantee that giving 7 chips is an intentional move to make more money. It’s structured that way to get players just close enough to unlocking a hero that they can almost taste it. Disney is not alone in this regard - most mobile games utilize this exact same strategy. I, too, received a duplicate Violet and got 7 chips for my troubles - it does feel insulting and nearly worthless. Unfortunately, that’s par for the course for these types of games.

Honestly, the monetization in this game is bonkers. It’s insane to me that in order to access the “VIP” crates, you need to reach VIP level 11, which equates to roughly $500. There’s no way I’m comfortable spending that kind of money on a game (any game) just to get access to a feature that then allows me to spend more money for a chance at the heroes I want. It’s absurd and disappointing because the game is great fun otherwise.

Yeah mark me down as another who is not a fan of these Diamond Chests, unless their formula changes I’ll never pay for one again - there is FAR better value for Diamonds elsewhere.

If the game could guarantee you a hero you don’t have that would help, but that fact you can get repeats in-between all of the other average items it isn’t worth it.

1 Platinum Credit Card for example for 288 Diamonds is another massive disappointment. You can use get more gold 2 times for 30 Diamonds and end up with more gold…

Protip: never spend diamonds on these chests, except maybe one time at the beginning where you’re almost guaranteed a new hero.

Only spend diamonds on stamina for now, and hoard your excess. Later we’ll most probably have better chests (like in other Perblue’s games) - Heroes Chest (where you’re guaranteed to have specific hero chips if you buy 10), Hero Catch-Up Chest, Resources Chest, and so on.

What frustrates me the most is that this system isn’t good for anyone. Obviously it’s bad for the players, but plenty of companies don’t care about that so whatever. It’s bad for the game, as it causes almost exclusively negative experiences, but once again plenty of companies don’t care about that. The truly infuriating part is that it’s bad for them as a business! Even if you got 1 new hero from each 10x that would take at least 16 buys plus a 10x for every new character. That’s roughly $45 per character meaning it would take about $720 to get them all. It is in their best interest to make that look appealing. Instead they make it cost infinitely more and turn off potential customers.

Personally I think their best bet as a business would be make the boxes always have chips, and a 10x pack have a hero you don’t have. It would still make them a crazy amount of money for each person who goes all the way, but increases the chances of getting money from less dedicated players.

I agree. I never spend money on games, so I’ll always be stingy with my diamonds, but the chests just aren’t even appealing. I’ve been playing since the worldwide launch. Since then, I’ve got 2 heroes (Rex and Buzz) , and I think I also got 1 I already had but I’m not sure who that was anymore, out of the free crates (which, in that regard, seems like some extreme good luck)
I get that they optimize, and that’s why you only get 7 shards out of a hero you already have. However, it does come across as a low blow as 10 (or even 9 I suppose) would be more fair as you would’ve gotten them if you didn’t have the hero already.

Other than that, however, it’s just a bunch of materials that you can get pretty easily by just playing the game (I mean, blue items can be tedious but not as much as the purple ones, which makes those seem like a better reward to get already)
