Back when I played over a year ago, I had Zurg on my team. Now that there have been new updates and new characters have been added, I want to know if he is still usable in any team.

Zurg, like most of the older heroes have been power creeped unfortunately.
However, his damage buff to Scared enemies makes him a direct counter to Fear, one of the most difficult support heroes ingame right now.
He has no damage buff against scared enemies. He only gains energy from them. He does have a damage buff against tanks with his Rex disk, though. With this disk, Zurg can defeat Max and Slinky, the most meta tanks in the game.
Also, Fear got a drastic nerf a couple of updates ago. So he’s only slightly better than T&P now.

Zurg still has potential. His evasion and reality negation are both decent. He can rip enemy teams to shreds once his active is used, but he will need the help from shielders and SP givers. I personally use Baymax, Shang, Nick, and Tron. He needs shields because he is pretty fragile.

Would Jim Hawkins work as a replacement for Tron since he gives energy at the start of each wave?
No. Neither of them are better than the other, since both of their focuses are different. Tron gives SP, and Jim gives energy. SP and energy are two different things.
