I’m not seeing any message appear when I request Guild Aid. 
does it only appear to me when someone else requests it, or is it broken?
Anyone else? If you’ve seen it then pls offer a screenshot

This is turned off by default. Only the Guild Leader can toggle this off and on via the Guild Wall settings.
