Today our guild got matched up against a legendary ranked number 1.
War instructions state that legendary gets matched with each other. Why did we get matched with a ledgendary team? Is the algorithm broken?

Something has obviously gone wrong. Aside from the issue of your opponent being in a different league to you, their MMR (which is what matchmaking is based upon) is way higher than yours, and you can see from your screenshots that there are clearly other teams with an MMR closer to yours.

A113 is rank 4 on the server and yes government is rank 1. But eventually they will have to fight all of the top 7 with the new system. So it was inevitable, they just haven’t had a good season so far that’s why they are gold.
Government has fought all the other guilds that are close in MMR within 7 fights so it trickles down

What i dont get is legendary rank… it means nothing when more then 100 guilds are in it
Tiers don’t matter anymore and haven’t mattered for months now. We’ve been facing guilds across all tiers for months. Where have you been?

@Polaris what’s going on with war matchmaking? Can your team look into this? In addition to the information above we fought government on 7/1/19 as well so when did matchmaking break and we get the same guild again? Today we got Supernova again who we lost to on 7/2/19.
From what I understood if we’re outside of legendary we would not get matched with other guilds already in legendary rank.

You can match the same guild twice per month, you just won’t face them twice within 2 weeks.
Matchmaking tries to match close MMR so my guess why you faced rank 1 while in different divisions is because there aren’t enough in legendary for them to face (that they haven’t faced already within 2 weeks). We lagged behind a few guilds getting to legendary at the beginning of the month because of the same thing. Very easy to notice if you watch ranks at the beginning of the month after reset.
You absolutely can get matched to guilds in legendary if you’re not in legendary. You just can’t get matched to a guild that you’ve faced within your last 7 wars. So scroll your war tiles back 7 and if that guild doesn’t show up in the 7, you can face them again.
