I noticed that once I promote my hero to a p2 their overall power was decreased
I assume you had enhanced their badges?
If you have enhanced any of their badges you will get a big power increase. When you promote them you will lose any increase you were getting from the enhancements.
It’s a good idea not to enhance a character unless you know you won’t be able to promote them for a while. Or if you’ve already enhanced them, don’t promote them unless you know you can equip at least 4 badges straight away afterwards.
