The purpose of the guild ranks in war should be used for matchmaking so you can only get matched up with people in your rank. As it stands right now if you are in the lowest rank you can still get matched up with someone who is in the top rank. I find this very unfair as good guilds are punished, having to play other top ranks and not being able to move up because of it.
It’s as though MMR doesn’t even matter in war matchups. I am in the 6th ranked guild on server 1, and in April, we weren’t even able to make legendary, as we were put against the number 1 and 2 ranked guilds 5 or 6 times. It is beyond frustrating. I understand facing someone one league ahead of you, but 4 is a little ridiculous
So, two things.
War as it was originally released DID have you only fight your rank. This meant that there was, essentially, 7x less opponents. Because everyone was decided into 7 ranks. After a few months they changed it to allow any rank to fight any rank as long as MMR was close.
This allowed more variety in matchups, but also produced the next mentioned issue, where a guild with 1500 MMR but 3 million total power got pitted against a guild with 1550 MMR and 12 million power. Based on winnings they should be even matches, but they weren’t. Perblue fixed this by changing how often you can repeat a war. Now, you will only see the same guild twice per month - every 7 wars.
Past experiences are irrelevant, because it doesnt work those ways any more. What we have now works pretty well. You can get matched with anyone remotely closed to you in MMR, but you wont get slaughtered very often because you get a two week break after fighting a guild.
Facing the same seven guilds constantly is so much worse. A team ranked fourth will only play teams one through seven over and over again. While incredibly weak teams are able to move up to the top tier. How does any of that make sense.
See I disagree with this. My guild is ranked #4 in total power and we’ve had a lot of variation in opponents with the new war system. The prior war system we would only face guilds 1-3 and guild #5 occasionally which lead to issues professing to legendary.
I’m guessing this new system does create issues for guilds ranked #6-10 or so as 1 or 2 won’t make legendary unless the top guilds start not queuing for war.
As I said, you now face the same 7 guilds at least instead of the same 2-4, or whoever happens to be in your league regardless of MMR. It’s better than anything before.
I disagree with you wholeheartedly. This system helps eliminate the need for the best players to all group together into one guild just for the sake of ranking. It allows people who play with friends, who may not be big spenders, to play together and still benefit and progress. The idea that the best should only make it to the top translates to “if we spend money we should be guaranteed a rank”.
If you want to collect together to make a top guild, then this is something you deal with.
In this scenario you should still win 4/7 matches every 2 weeks if the higher power always wins.
Higher power doesn’t always win though. Guild perks, good targeting, and everyone hitting the focus targets is what wins. I’m in a #3 guild and we got smoked by the #1, barely lost to the #2 (a lot of failed attacks meant more points for their defenses standing and less total hits we could make due to wasting another attack wiping the leftovers), and have won otherwise. Toward the end of the month it seems like a lot of guilds don’t queue anymore too, which gives even more opportunity for any guild that struggled a little to catch up if they can.
I understand the sentiment that a higher ranked guild on the server can feel cheated if low guilds are getting to the last tier and they aren’t though. I only feel sorry though if they’ve legitimately concentrated efforts and made every hit they could and have focused on guild war perks.
That being said, a low level guild getting to legendary doesn’t boost them to too guild status, it just helps elevate them amongst the low level guilds. They still lack in numerous other daily areas (surge, coliseum, arena, etc) so they’ll still progress slower than your guild. Don’t worry about what other people are getting who don’t threaten you in the least. Likewise, a #6 guild that doesn’t make it to legendary while a #7 might doesn’t mean the system is broken. Maybe they had some easier matchups, but maybe they just tried harder and got rewarded for it.
This game, and any game like it, always let the rich get richer in a sense. The #1 guild is always (unless there is serious competition, which usually dwindles over time) going to get better rewards than the #2 guild which means they are always going to progress faster. The same is true of the top 1% and top 5%. They aren’t designed to be “fair”, they’re designed to encourage spending and spending a load of time on their game (which also encourages spending, to take shortcuts).
Exactly it’s not always highest power wins. My guild has routinely beaten guilds that outrank us in power due to planning and organization.
The only facing a guild every 7 wars is a much better solution than the 3 war rotation currently, but unfortunately there isn’t a fix that is going to make everyone happy.
