Open letter to Perblue

Every single point you mentioned is on spot just one.
People are already leaving now. Server 16 which I started in the middle of February this year is becoming a deserted place. This is my game experience from S1 and S5 all over again. It’s just sad.

Second thing is so many dedicated players made so many very good suggestions to keep the game alive in interesting for top spenders and non top spenders. It’s really unfortunate that’s almost none of those suggestions seems to be picked up to ensure a healthy server population.

I’m sorry, but this doesn’t happen. Learning curve is not there. I just installed Portal Quest just out of curiosity, a game PerBlue launched approximately a year before DHBM.
All servers possible are merged, guilds down from top20 dead, chat dead. Max lvl is 195, red rarity. Same power burst with new toons as in DHBM to push deals. It seems to be the one and only revenue model they cater.

I invested so much in my Freeze team, and so Toy Story 4 characters released and i can’t win anyone with that team anymore, so all the money and time building my freeze team it was for nothing, so one month later in Lion King characters i leveled up Bo Peep, Meg, T&P, Joy and still using Elsa for control and because i don’t want to stop using her, a team based on protect Bo, and for some time i could win some teams with that, but now against Piggy and Randall is just impossible, i understand new heroes being strong so people want to build them, but it’s just absurd, Piggy-T&P-Animal-Joy-Meg is impossible to beat, and now Randall is destroying arena, and again all my resources and time go to trash, at least i can easily win City Watch with that team, but now if i want to compete i NEED to level up Animal, Piggy, Randall, but i already know in the future new heroes will destroy this characters because Perblue keep doing that so what’s the point? An eternal cicle of upgrading new heroes, how much money they want us to spend every month to keep upgrading every single one? All i want is that my resources, time and money are not being thrown in the trash every time a new hero is released, i am investing on Piggy now she still O6, but now with Randall and Hook don’t tell me one more time all i am doing will mean nothing against future new heroes, please balance better this new characters.

And older heroes NEED more love, i just wish to use my favorite characters, my Olaf get 700 damage in Red+1 to Red+2, and Bo get 6000, 6 Star on Elsa get to her 2,6k skill power, my guildmate showed the six star on Animal give to him 4,5k Skill Power, a support character get AND DO more damage then a Damage character just because he is new, is just not fair, i just hope Perblue acknowledge they are destroying the game doing this.

Sorry for my bad english, i used translator.

I do understand the reasoning behind the new OP heroes I think, it’s not a mistake.

We’ve been getting various small improvements to help us bring more heroes up to a mid-level - the stamina cost change being the main one - therefore the :whale: need something extra to stay on top, since for most long-term people (even f2p) having a large amount of heroes 3-4 ranks below the cap isn’t too difficult. In the past meta, the top teams would have been beatable with this kind of rank disparity, which according to PB doesn’t give the :whale: a satisfactory advantage.

Making new heroes as OP as they are seems like their way of ensuring the spenders keep a competitive advantage, while also allowing everyone else to bring up their roster a little easier. :man_shrugging:

Yeah, it’s really annoying, but from my pov I’d rather have more somewhat useable, oldish heroes than 1-2 new OP ones at the cap - that’s essentially the choice we have to make.

Even so, I think the resources required are still too much to bring up heroes past O6 or so - this is the one area where DS was enormously better - that game had variable drop rates rather than the flat 25%, and they tended to be more favourable.

I think the game is still very fun. The only big complaint I have is that the rewards can be better. Especially for invasion.

But PerBlue is still doing a Disney magical job!

Honestly thank you so, so much for confirming the game isn’t ending any time soon. I had heard people saying that for a while and while I never truly believed them I was beginning to worry about the off-chance they were right. I’m looking forward to the future of this game!

Interesting replies.

Without seeming cynical, a mobile games developer is never going to tell you a game is near closing until they are ready to close it. Why? Because it would be a poor move financially. They want you spending money for as long as possible.

I take on board @Polaris’s comments earlier in the thread but I take them with a pinch of salt. As someone who has played and seen numerous games of this type run their natural courses - I have never seen a developer be upfront and honest about closing a game down. Like I said before - why would they be? By doing that they just lose money as no one spends money on an enterprise due to close.

Personally I hope the game thrives, I hope they continue to re-balance older heroes, I hope they find new ways to attract new players, I hope they find ways to address the economics of the game, I hope they introduce new game modes and competitions, I hope they find a way to make Guild War a more tactical, more rewarding experience. I hope they do these things and more… but I don’t think they will.

First of all, I just want to let you to know that I really do appreciate you replying to us in this particular topic. Especially since I know you’re probably very limited in what you can and can’t say from your superiors. So thank you.

All things considered, I have to agree with @Mr_Ptr in that I’m also very skeptical about the actual future of the game. For the simple reason that this isn’t the first time we mentioned these concerns and this isn’t the first time we got the exact same response back. And nothing changed for the better at all lately.

The one thing that actually would help the game greatly, is the one thing Perblue would refuse to even reconsider at all. To slow down the level cap increases. This is where all the problems began. And I don’t see Perblue realizing this anytime soon and fix this. And I can already predict we will have this exact same conversation again in 2 months time, with the exact same complaints and with the exact same response. I would love to be wrong on this though.

Yes, I don’t expect any changes for the cap schedule. But it could be addressed with changes in game economics.

  1. For example 4 buys of stamina for 50 diamonds instead of only two.
  2. More team xp for dailies for people starting out on older servers.
  3. Adding all items to the highest playable stage of trials. How many times you need to go to lower stages for stuff you need to equip 05/06/07 or red rarity heroes? Or use valuable stamina to obtain them? This is needlessly frustrating.
  4. Reverse gold cost for skills for lvl 100+ or raise gold income accordingly
  5. Implement mods and mod enhancements needed to lower stages of Invasion rewards
  6. Review of drop rates for bottle neck items

Lots of suggestions were being made to adress those issues. People who want to stay on top will still have the advantage of early access. It would even the field for the player base and keep people in the game and stop the devastating rate of players leaving the game. But there’s a breaking point and if people are turning to other games there’s zero chance they will return.

Like @Serenity_XXIII said, I also don’t expect the changes on lv cap. I have fallen behind far enough that, it doesn’t matter anymore.

I just hope you guys make changes that benefit middle players, like myself

  1. Add all bits to high level trials. I don’t want to ever have to raid for Orange, Imagination ship, … again. Not to mention, the drop rate of these things is horrible

  2. Lower the lv requirement for friendship. Whenever new heroes released, their friendship lv requirement is most of the time, the max level at that time! That’s not cool. How long do you think we will be able to reach there?

  3. Decrease the difficulty of friend campaign. It’s hard enough to reach that high level, and when you think, you can complete that friend disc, the campaigns are terrible. Enemies’ rarity is way too high, not to mention, their combo are our given heroes’s weakness! Really??? Please remember that, we can’t invest in ALL heroes! (And we shouldn’t, like @Polaris once said)

The reason people are leaving, aside from the fact that they can’t compete, is that they can’t enjoy the game anymore. Please, make it enjoyable again, let us have thing a little easier, and, who else can complain?

I really have an issue with point 3 in terms of not expecting to level all heroes.

In reality that’s nonsense. Take Captain Hook for instance - he is the newest hero.

To activate his friend campaign, both he and Barbossa need to be level 138. The other accomplices are Animal, Robin Hood and Bo Peep. All newer heroes. That means a huge resource investment into Hook to start the campaign, then assuming you already have Barbossa levelled, badges and skilled (I don’t) a huge investment in 3 of the newer heroes too.

In my case I have none of the required heroes at a level to stand a chance in the friend campaign. If I want to use Hook I have to basically do nothing else than build those 5 characters.

It is this way with every new hero. The level to trigger the friendship gets higher and they all need at least 2 of the newest heroes.

If you want disks - you better be damn sure you have every hero in the game built.

OMG, I totally know how you fell. For me, it’s the Miss Piggy and Queen of Heart’s campaign. My QoH is so weak, and among “the helps”, which are Anger, Ursula and Vanellope, I only have Anger is my main heroes… Wish me luck, plsssss

Back to the topic of Hook, luckily for me, Barbossa always have been my main hero, and Bo Peep too. But, I don’t plan on taking this disc. The disc I want is Peter Pan’s…

Well, it’s about general requirements for friendships on newer heroes.

  1. it’s teamlevel wise
  2. it’s hero wise
Once people on this forum were told that you don’t need to lvl every toon to be successful in this game. At the end its the opposite. You need to level and build up those supporting heroes needed in this specific friendship campaign and YOU DON’T KNOW which ones are needed. Those supporting heroes are usually useless metawise but you still need to invest resources in them.
It’s not possible to leave heroes behind that you simply don’t use, don’t like or don’t make sense metawise. PerBlue make this impossible requirements knowing by analytics that people don’t have those specific heroes in a playable shape. That’s stinks because again, you need resources you don’t have and you fall more behind because you invest in these useless supporting heroes to manage friendships and neglect your main roster.

Bro I’ve been spend 400-500 a month and I’m barely keeping up as it is!
I’ve already stopping playing the game once and came back out of pure boredom and missing my guildies too much :joy:
seriously contemplating actually quitting the game now, like you said it’s and absolute chore! Grind grind grind and for what return “here have another level cap increase & spend spend spend”
What an absolute joke

Well I don’t want this game to die, just because I spent hundreds of dollars in this game. I liken that to going to the casino and just losing money from betting. That sucks.

But very good analysis

I always tend to compare games like these with league of legends. That’s a game bases on strategy and not money. Of course I understand DH needs to make money, but I can’t help to think that they got too greedy. They didn’t need to raise the level like that, they didn’t need to add that many heros on every update, they didn’t need to make them so unbalanced. They could have done it all but slowly, so the game wouldn’t be just about the money, but also about strategy. If take lol for example, they keep changing the heros power to balance the game. Well, I think there is no turning back now, server merge means that the game is dieing…

This isn’t LoL. This is a different genre on a different platform, and it has it’s own problems.

Firstly, LoL is one of the most popular games in the world. They can make a lot more from less monetizing. DH:BM is not nearly as popular.

The game can’t just be LoL like you want because of how they actually make money. LoL’s microtransactions grant access to exclusive skins or access to heroes without having to work as hard for them. PerBlue can’t add the same quantity of skins, because they need everything to be approved by Disney. The devs themselves have said it takes the same amount of time to approve a costume as to approve a new hero, so they do that instead.

Now, they do have to add heroes and raise caps to keep the whales spending because they have salaries to pay and game development to fund. If they don’t, the whales will get bored and move to another game. If the new heroes aren’t OP, then they’re useless and no one will want to max them out. Thus the F2P are doomed to weakness.

For a mobile game, the game is actually pretty good. It just suffers from the same problems every other one does. Power creep is a particularly big issue now, but they’ve added hero refreshes which have helped somewhat.

Though, I have to agree a little bit about the greed. The weekend contests have been giving way too few points, by far. It’s at the point where it’s counter-intuitive. I’ve spent way more resources on contests where I manage to break into the top 200 then ones where I can’t get past 10,000 points.

This is what I was talking about months ago when server merges for 5, 6 and 7 were announced. Now the next merges came in a shorter period of time.
I expect S 13-16 to merge in February next year.
Maybe 17-20, too.
The game past it’s prime and population could be so much healthier if it wasn’t the for the greed to press for more and more.
International deal prices went up, too. What makes them more expensive then US deals isn’t only the exchange rate as suggested by PerBlue

Guys, seems like you haven’t seen Demiurge with their SEGA Heroes. I do play that as well and must say that PerBlue is very mild compared to Demiurge. Peace.

I think it’s going to be more complicated to merge later servers. For example, 13 and 15 are currently Asian servers only, so they may not be able to merge with 14 and 16. Not sure about the later servers off the top of my head.
