Well, I do keep track of my game completion progress - it helps me determine where things lack! So lets check it. Sorry for the long post, a cookie for every person that reads the whole thing without skipping 90% of it.
The good part: red skills
In the past 6 months the number of my maxed out red skills heroes grew by 25. We had about 8 heroes released during that period, so from a how-many-heroes-you-can-maintain perspective it is in a great spot. I understand that it gets slower the more heroes you try to maintain and the higher the level cap goes, but it currently allows to maintain much more heroes than are viable in any given point in time.
Lets not forget the changes PB made on that front. We now have a steady source of elite double drops that we can use during 80% stamina buys, and now we get red skill chips from the elite campaign - these 2 changes were a massive improvement from PB putting the red skills in tip-top shape. Before that I was struggling.
F2P players still need to wait for new heroes to reach the elite campaign to be able to max their red skills. I think that is a fair trade as PB does not keep more than several heroes exclusive.
The bad part: Battle badges / Disk levels
Battle Badges - to this day I have not maxed out even 1. This is just a non-existent mechanic for the majority of the community. At best you have a handful of useful empowers and that’s it. This mechanic deserves an overhaul - it has a lot of interfaces built around it to just let it rot like this.
Disks levels - I have only 15 disks maxed out and I’m already struggling to maintain them. In the past 6 months I managed to get only 4 new disks maxed out.
It is worth noting that PB significantly increased the disk power gains, but even with that I expect to hit a plateau around 20-25 maxed out disks and not be able to max out any more. I do spend money but its never on disk power, so this is from a F2P (disk power wise) player’s point of view.
In DH there are 3 power tiers of players:
Tier 1: F2P regulars
Tier 2: F2P veterans / P2W regulars
Tier 3: P2W veterans
The existence of that Tier 2, where the best F2P players can rival P2W players is what makes DisneyHeroes stand out from the rest of the garbage on the market.
Maintaining 20 disks maxed out just by logging in every day is fine! I would even say its too much and should be reduced. Any additional F2P disk power should not be that straight-forward to obtain. What we need are items/ways for experienced players to significantly multiply their disk power gains if played right (made in a way where you need to put 2+2 together), so that they can afford to maintain much more disks, to make them a bit more even to people that buy disk power. Something similar to how combining different items in the right way can make you upgrade & maintain much more heroes than a person that just wastes them. We don’t have anything like that for disk power, and I think we should have something like that for all resources to keep that Tier2 hype. It will make the game better! @Loutre @Nugget (suggestion for improvement)
The existence of such ways to get ahead of the rest with thinking and planning is what makes DH the fantastic game that it is. A game where the experience and knowledge of veterans outweighs throwing money with no direction
