Proactive vs Reactive Shielding

After playing the game for a bit I suddenly had a thought about 2 of my supports.
Joy and Violet.

Joy is the reactive shielder.
Violet is the proactive shielder.

Being put into a fight where having a shield may be life or death with a squishy character. I’m starting to wonder is it better to shield before the hit happens or put a shield to prevent a bigger disaster.

Joy like always will shield teammates who are about to K.O. while Violet will protect the most vulnerable ally on the field.

Violet tends to protect 1 ally so they become less of a concern with being knocked out while Joy will make sure 1 ally can make a comeback.

Proactive shielding problems is mainly “What if another teammate was being messed up and she’s on a cooldown because she decided to protect the other.”

Reactive shielding problems is usually “The whole team is being messed up and she can only save 1.”

Feel free to discuss which type of action is overall better in this game.

This happens the most in the current metas.
