Server 2 & 22: City Watch Matchmaking Feedback Wanted!

We’ve made some changes to City Watch matchmaking on servers 2 and 22 and we want to hear from those players about the impact of these changes.

  • With the 1.17 update we changed the way scaling worked with opponents. Rather than just power, scaling now considers levels, rarity, skill level, stars, mod slots, real gear stars, real gear level
  • Starting with 1.17.10 we added more variety into the opponent lineups. Matchmaking now looks for opponent lineups with more variety with the result of fewer meta lineups. Scaling will be applied to any lineups to bring them to the correct difficulty level for the player.
  • Also in 1.17.10 we changed the was badges factor into the hero power calculation. It’s now determined by the rarity of the badge. This change was made in order to make power calculations more uniform across heroes (old and new), and help improve matchmaking.

So, players on servers 2 and 22, we’d like to hear your feedback about these changes. If you reply, please identify which server you play on.

So much better. I used to be so frustrated with CW… now at least I have a chance to get red skills. Thanks.

S22:
Way harder- I can barely finish.
I am fighting teams 20 levels higher with fully maxxed skills and stars. How is this comparable?
Gonzo and Elsa always with gonzo and Elsa.
It took all creativity out of that gameplay; I am just using my 6/7 top chars to grind and raiding as much as possible. It went from fun to a very negative association that I would rather just skip.

Shame really, it should be a fun playground for trying out new teams and maybe getting some use out of chars that haven’t been able to fully invest in by going to an easier level, but easy/medium are basically the same thing due to scaling and no level cap.

CW needs level & star power caps for difficulty level.

Actually i dont feel any changes but i keep clearing CW on Hard since the day it was availabel and hot it everyday ever since …

Sure theire are maybe 1 or 2 districts which can be difficult but i even got our weekly challenge twice this week with a p2 Zurg on hard …

From my guild and friendside … i just hear that they feel it easier now … so i dunno what to say

Well done and keep going PB

Server 2: my experience with the new matchup in city watch is an improvement. I do not face randall lineup 5 to 7 times in a row. It is much of an improvement that i even do weekly wards that i avoid.

At the moment, grinding red skills to max is a chore to deal with especially with cap level increased always comes with short gaps. My request now for city watch is to remove the random roulette mechanic and let all the red skill heroes i choose to getnthe reward or remove the level limitor so that maxing red skill are optional than its needed to utilize anpassive kit to 100% processed.

A little background to start: Before this year, I felt CW was usually about right in difficulty, ranging from fairly simple to pretty challenging. For most of this year, that range has shifted up so that it’s now pretty challenging to almost impossible, IMHO. I think the main reason for my difficulties was the increasing presence of newer heroes that I had trouble countering, along with some older heroes that always caused some problems. So, my opinions based on my fairly-limited experience (3 or 4 attempts) with the new City Watch matchmaking:

I’m really enjoying seeing the greater variety, and I have to admit it’s more fun to finish it easily than to struggle and have to retry several battles a dozen times each. On the other hand, it’s almost too easy; at times I wish I could have a little more practice against the newer heroes to learn more about them. Which at least has a simple solution: raid it less often; since it’s currently not very hard except for two or three teams per run, I don’t feel constrained to use my raid tickets all the time. This way I can still be exposed to about as many fresh new heroes and lineups as before. (Like that Launchpad/Colette/HDL setup from this morning that was surprisingly tough.) Rating: 4

Before, I was almost always finishing it in Hard, and (except for once) always at least making it to the final trio of battles in Epic. So far I’ve finished every attempt with the new matchmaking system with only moderate trouble, so I suspect I’ll be doing even better under the new system. Rating: 4

Obviously, I’m much happier being able to finish than being able to almost finish. Rating: 5

As mentioned above, I’m happy with the greater variety (no more seeing the same user names every three attempts!), and while I like getting practice in against newer, meta heroes, I can still find a way to do so with the new system. Rating: 4

I haven’t looked into this enough to form an opinion, to be honest. When sorting my heroes by power, I don’t notice much difference in the order now compared to what it was before, if that means anything.

Significantly easier. I’ll probably start experimenting with running Epic when one ward is difficult for me to overcome just to see if I can make it far enough to be worth the effort, whereas before I always waited for one easy ward and one ward that was, at worst, only mildly difficult to overcome.

Overall, I’m happy with the changes, and suspect they’re about the best that can be done to keep things interesting without being too difficult.

Разницы особо не заметил, играю несколько дней

  1. I rated this as a 3 because I really like doing Epic City Watch, but getting keys is too much of a hassle. There are so many characters with Red Skills now, and so many that are level specific that the red skill is nearly useless unless fully maxed. Epic CW should be open and not require keys, or there should be other, easier, less expensive ways to get them.

  2. Progress is still pretty much the same.

  3. I am happy with the progress I can make, and the challenges it provides.

  4. I am SOOOOO much happier that there are new lines and not the same thing over and over and over again!!! THANK YOU!!!

  5. There were? Power numbers are near meaningless in this game. Some of my lower power heroes are most important because of skill set, not because of “power.”

  6. I feel it is about the same in difficulty but substantially better in enjoyability (when I can run Epic CW).

Thanks!

Have to say this has been a positive change for me for city watch. Much more variety instead of the constant Elsa, Gonzo and Kristoff from before. It is also much less difficult and while I could finish before, now it’s easier.

As for changes to old characters I have not even noticed it. Old characters are still much much weaker and mostly unusable in a lot of cases. As another poster mentioned I barely even see a difference in my roster when sorting by power.

One big negative however, the effect the recent changes to badge calculation had on creep surge. Surge used to be a great way to get my collection points, especially on weaker zones. But now, all of the issues city watch had, creep surge has inherited.

The same characters over and over, 30k power teams that can wipe a 50k unless it is a well balanced team. I look at the surge log and it’s not just me either. More defeats than ever before since the badge changes.

If every attack has to be a well balanced team or a strong (often meaning new) character just to clear areas, while limiting then to one use only and clearing areas as a guild of varying power levels? Surge is more of a chore than fun now.

I agree it’s been slightly better with these changes thanks, but if were to make a suggestion, improve the raid perk and give the ability to raid it and give five raid tickets for it like the other settings if one finishes all five waves (the red skill hero chip earned for raiding can be random for those one can unlock/have unlocked already). And speaking of raiding, wish raiding counted towards contests that require cw for it as it is an essential feature to the game for most, and still a victory so why not count towards challenges?

Wouldn’t this make the game mode basically pointless… they may as well send us the rewards in the mailbox each day  nobody would ever have to actually play it

  1. Very fun, I’ve always enjoyed CW aside from the odd occasion where a particularly strong meta team has posed great difficulty. This now happens less, so, very fun!

  2. No change - I had no trouble completing it before

  3. No difference - as above

  4. Much better! It’s lot more varied and presents an easier task than many meta teams in a row. It also offers the opportunity to discover some interesting lineups with less popular heroes.

  5. Mostly indifferent, I’ve gained a lot of power as a result but it’s not effective power so… :man_shrugging:t2: it can provide a somewhat misleading estimation of battle - my power could be fairly close to an opponent, but my team actually significantly weaker. It seems disks, mods & enhancements now weigh a lot less which is giving this false impression of parity. If it’s helping matchmaking, so be it.

  6. Much easier - one could probably quick fight their way through now, which was never the case before (and not really sure that’s a good thing). Too easy is better than too hard, though!

No it wouldn’t make it useless, you would still have to earn those raid tickets for most part or one ticket as a perk not going to make or break the game. They are random anyways from the toons you use so what would be the diffrence :man_shrugging:

oh right, I thought you meant that the 5 raid tickets would be given after having raided :stuck_out_tongue:

it would differ in the amount of chips given - right now it’s eligible heroes x7 - it wouldn’t know how many eligible heroes someone planned to use

I really am not concerned with power balance between old and new characters. My concern, and the reason City Watch is the only part of the game I detest playing, is that I cannot win. On easy mode I can’t get past area 3, let alone complete one! How is it fair that I am paired against enemies who by far surpass anything I can get past? And when there are challenges that require so many CW stars, or complete one using a particular hero, etc. they are challenges I cannot now, nor see being able to complete in the near future. It really is a horrible, but task wise necessary, part of the game. Now on other servers, players who have comparable hero level amd skill, are able to easily complete a full watch. But I suppose that it is once again server favouritism. Just like all the deals they get offered that we don’t.

I’ll just be honest and based on what i’m experiencing so far from server 2, It just got worse at every CW runs I’ve done and I have to keep mixing up my heroes. I don’t see any changes, but made things worse. In overall, it’s harder since I always get paired up with overpowered heroes like randall and beast with barely with any countermeasures that I have. Suggesting a change would be a fair fight like making things equal and/or lower to your hero’s levels and not going through overpowered levels, rank, and rarity. In my worst case scenario, I’ve struggled trying to get the skill chips for my heroes and replenish them as much as possible.

I wonder what’s causing the difference; in the City Watches I’ve run over the past week, I haven’t seen any of the unholy trio of Beast, Randall, or Jafar more than three times in one watch, whereas before I’d get at least 6 of each. On the other hand, I’m seeing a lot more of the lesser-used and outdated heroes like Shank, Felix, and Alice. Why am I (and apparently a few others) seeing such a drastic shift, while others are reporting almost no change?

CW is nearly impossible to complete on medium and I have completed one time. The teams in the fifth district ko all my different strategies and my team power is over 300k. I have not completed the hard mode at all. I use a lot of reset and raids because it’s overly frustrating.

These changes are better than the previous CW, but sometimes there are harder matchups.

I have something to ask. How does the extra bank reset in CW works? I added the perk last night and it does not work on the daily reset.

Does the perk works after 24 hrs of putting it?

Is a little eaaier to progress but still having trouble completing It in medium…

Is more diverse and thats good
