Last weekend, we had the oppurtunity to take part in a new kind of contest, where you needed to ‘earn’ arena or coliseum tokens, or spend a lot of coins.
I have followed the hate from players who have bought coin-deals in the announcement topic. I’d like to talk more nuanced, where i try to think of solutions for problems i encountered.
The idea of a contest that inspires activity throughout the weekend is a good one, and i would very much like it if it where the case. I don’t mind whales winning, so the coins spending can stay, but the collecting of the tokens needs some attention.
This was the majority of points. That is three times the collection of daily rewards, and once a war sabotage refund (later more about that). If this is the way to get a lot of points, it does not inspire to be active at all. It didn’t really make for a fun contest. Furthermore, I calculated that the daily rewards would give me the progress rewards, so what gives then?
A solution for this is to exclude Arena and Coliseum tokens from these scores, and replace them with either City Watch (raids excluded), Heist or Surge. If you want to have these tokens, you need to participate, in contrast to Arena and Coliseum.
The thing that also still needs to be adressed is this
As you could see above, is that i got lucky that i was granted the option to sabotage with arena tokens in war. I knew that we could not win from the opponent anyway, so made a strategice use of a loophole. Yes, a loophole.
The problem at hand here is that not everyone got the equal chance of sabotaging with Arena or Coliseum tokens. What’s more, not everyone can lose a war at the same time. Many players therefore were not able to profit from this loophole.
I won’t ask PerBlue to go fix the contest that is over, but this problem also needs adressing for the next time. Exclude these specific messages from counting towards the contest, or make sure that the tokens at stake in the contest are not an sabotage option at the time of the contest.
To summarize: I would suggest trying this great idea of inspiring to participate again, but in that case for City Watch/Heist/Surge tokens. The war sabotage should i.n a way be excluded from counting towards points
