Turning Red - Thoughts?

That didn’t and won’t happen…

Oh… parents which want some big companies to raise their children, Disney “fans” but they only care and limited about Princesses and Frozen stuff, don’t worry… at some point there will be 10000 princess movie or Frozen 3! Yay… not.

What? Life is uncomfortable? Puberty which does
happens to literally everyone.

And it was PG movie…

Not to mention that these completely “kid friendly movies” have a lot of death scenes on screen… but sure, that is completely appropriate.
Red panda? Oh no! Cover your eyes!

You said it would be very good, I’m just responding to that.

No idea what you’re getting at, tame language is not a big ask

Among other things, but yeah puberty makes everyone uncomfortable lol

And that was a more tame example

PG makes it suitable for as broad an audience as possible while still maintaining intelligent storylines that can speak to anyone

Where I said I want swearing in the movies?

… you got U rated movies, watch them.

You said if Pixar went PG-13 it would be very good.

You’re losing me again so I’m just going to assume it’s another snarky and irrelevant remark lol

black-cat-so
What one has to do with another?

What do you think the difference between PG and PG-13 is?

The ratings system is, and has always been, arbitrary and dumb.

Look at The Conjuring, which is an R-rated movie. Minimal and mild profanity, next to zero violence, no raunchiness whatsoever…so, umm, where’d the R rating come from?

The Conjuring is a PG movie that happens to be super spooky.

Would kids watching be unconfromtable

Cause I would argue they might not be, and this movies is presenting the message that you don;t have to be ashamed of puberty and everything that comes with it. It tells the story of how to embrace how quirky and goofy you can be at that age. I wouldn’t know why that would make the movie suitable for everyone?

It might just be me, but I think this movie is another of pixar’s great success in providing a movie with a message, that is also very well accessible to kids.

It is. Definitely one of best movies by Pixar and overall.

Ehhhhh…I like what Turning Red was trying to do, and the first half is quite funny, but the execution on its big ideas and the narrative (especially in the second half) is so messy and muddy that I just couldn’t enjoy it anymore.

That screenplay needed some more rewrites.

Might or might not is kind of the point. Some people are, some people aren’t. Why be polarizing?

Puberty is one thing. Then you have kids calling each other perverts, referring to songs as “stripper music” followed by “what’s wrong with that?”

I found it very uncomfortable to watch with my family and I was not the only one so… I’m glad people enjoyed it, but beyond the crude quips and themes, the film was nothing new and far from being the best in any regards. “Be yourself” has been the message of the decade and after hearing the first 5 minutes of the film you know what how the plot is going to unfold. :man_shrugging:t2:

It’s interesting why that one got an R rating. The MPAA literally said that the film is so scary that no specific scene or tone could be edited to lower it to a PG-13.

Well, that’s dumb. It’s really not tonally different from Poltergeist, and yet, boom! PG rating!

And Poltergeist had the face-ripping scene, to boot!

Eh, frankly to me, any film that uses evil spirits for horror is as much of a cheap shot as jumpscares. But yes, I do agree that “being too scary” isn’t a valid reason for giving a film an R rating (though it does make for good advertising).

Running out of ideas on how to keep this thread on topic.
