So for me it was yesterday when I opened the 3rd set of buy 10 hero crates to get a 2 star animal and I actually got 22 Jafar hero chips.

Same! Yesterday I opened a x10 Hero Chip Crate and got 5 Animal chips. That may not sound exciting, but I had 8 Animal chips before. With those 5 chips I was able to unlock Animal
Another lucky drop was when I opened 10 diamond crates (using the “Use 10” button) and got 2 Jafars in a row. I already had him, but I was able to get him to 3 stars now.

Think I got about 40 yesterday out of my buy ten for ducky and bunny, 
was pretty awesome.

My best luck was using the free diamond crate items and getting Stitch on my last one.
