She’s not being harassed at all. And if she did feel harassed, it’s not because of her gender or beliefs. It’s because of how she’s responding to our thoughts.

I do feel a need to stand up for the community here; nobody has said anything to demean her ideas.

Others have received cruelty from her IMO just because they disagree. The ‘hate’ she mentions is merely different opinions, respectful ones at that, which we are fully allowed to have.

I don’t want to send any hate back but I’d be totally lying if I said I was happy with the way she handled this. It’s getting seriously cruel.

This is the reason the problem is not taking as seriously as it should! Stop antagonizing your friends!

Pawpsicle asked elsewhere what you meant by actor being gender neutral, and you flag him for not knowing. If that’s you’re idea of ‘discussion’ count me out.

Nobody is denying that this may have happened, but clearly nobody here was party to it or condones it in any way. We’re all on the same side, that’s why people have found it fairly abrasive to have been unnecessarily lumped in with said creepy people for no reason other than sharing the same anatomy

I’m not calling you out individually, but I want to use this as a learning moment. In general, when someone says “I’m being harassed” this reaction is common and just makes the person reporting the issue feel more targeted.

Yes, it’s true maybe you didn’t see anything happen, you aren’t aware of anything happening, and this has never happened to you, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. We need to give the person reporting the issue support.

When I called on the community I wasn’t calling you individually out for being part of the problem. I want you all to step up and be part of the solution. Part of the solution is standing with our community members and saying
“This isn’t acceptable and we don’t want this to be who we are.”

Well, yeah - by ‘here’ I meant within the general population of commenters on this post, made up mostly of Imagineer’s friends who do agree with her if there are people being hateful elsewhere on the forums, then that’s very bad and should be dealt with but also nothing to do with us, and it’s very difficult for us to advise any course of action other than blocking & reporting the offenders.

I don’t think the game or forums have a toxic atmosphere at all in general, there’s always a few sour apples but they are just individuals - not of any specific gender or race or anything, they could be anyone - and not representative of the community as a whole.

I have to agree with this, if the person feels they are being disliked, you can’t say anything that would change their opinion, but you can try and make things better for the affected person

Actually this has happened to me. I have received creepy messages in game; I block and report that person and be done with it instead of accusing all people of the same gender for being born part of the problem.

That’s hard to sympathize with.

It is reaching the point that other people are being harassed for disagreeing. It’s shameful and taking sides blindly is not fair either.

This never should have been a thing in the first place. I am beyond disappointed.

We just disagree with Imagineer on how the ratio of males to females should matter. It shouldn’t.

Well… I clearly changed the posts to shift to the actual thing AND NOBODY WANTS TO MOVE ON. I am starting to wonder if people even read these statements I will quote.

I have edited the main post to help reflect the real point of the post. While representation is important, that is really not something we can solve as a community because we do not exist for that reason. While, as I did say before, it is always good to see yourself in movies and characters, it can be in many ways. I would like to say that I never denied that you can connect with characters for inner qualities and struggles and on top of that even if you do not look like them.

The main misunderstandings or differing viewpoints that came from this was because nobody asked for clarification or elaboration on what I meant from some statements, which have since just been edited out because that should not be the focus of discussion. More female characters should come into the game and not just so there are more of them (because my point is it really is not a bad thing), but because they are cool and great in their own ways despite some not so modern things that can be found in them and flaws. I like to argue that flaws make them better.

I deeply apologize for the words that were said to hurt some of you. I was overwhelmed by what I received on the thread and that got to me. As the leader of the discussion that was not the best thing that could have happened. What I did notice though is that generalizing statements were made of both males and females. Perhaps that could be something to discuss here.

Not all of you are a part of the problem, but can become part of the solution once you know how. If you need suggestions let me know! I got lots of them!

If you experience sexism, racism, or any other abusive behavior in the game, please Block and Report. We get all those reports and do take actions against toxic people.

Can I suggest a function that would allow people to explain the reasoning behind reports to help the process run more smoothly while we are at it?

Anyway… Happy Women’s History Month! Since it is that month of the year, I especially encourage you all to do some research that relates to what you enjoy (for example Disney) but also highlights women that relate to that particular thing. I will be doing my own and I would love if we could share our findings! Disney is doing this across their social media accounts and even in the parks, so why can’t we do the same? Just a thought so we can be more lighthearted and positive, because that is something I strive to do - spread joy.

It is quite difficult to articulate. The part where I share my experience is a good start. I have not experienced discrimination because I did feel included once I figured things out. The biggest thing is when talking about female characters to just be more careful about what you say because sometimes it can be seen as offensive or stereotyping. Being more careful with what you say in general is not that hard and it should just be done no matter what the subject matter is. That would solve a lot of it actually.

Another thing is first off no matter who you are not being afraid to tell people something is wrong about a post in a manner that is respectful. Give them a small suggestion to improve while you are at it. Part of this fear is what contributed to me not just telling people flat out because I was afraid of being denied, receiving rude response, or flagged myself.

And not to sound mean or rude, but I hope that others can rethink what they said as well and consider all viewpoints. While making the original post I did not think of some of the things that I have always agreed with, such as inner qualities being more important. I also hope for an apology in a way or another.
