Raya doesn’t even deserve to choke on the ground that Encanto walks on.

What a trash movie. Everything about Raya and the Last Dragon was woefully ill-conceived. If I were a Southeast Asian person, I would be livid during every moment of this stupid, insufferable film.

I don’t know if it was that bad, but mistakes were certainly made lol. It doesn’t stand much chance against its competition, that’s for sure.

It’s too bad We Don’t Talk About Bruno wasn’t nominated for best song! Dos Oruguitas was kind of a weird choice lol

Hands WILL be thrown if this doesn’t win

It dosen’t help when most of it was done at home without their usual resources.

Raya’s problems all come from the writing being complete garbage, not the visuals. The visuals are fine.

It’s the story and characters (as well as its laughably inauthentic setting) that make Raya and the Last Dragon dumpster-tier.

As good as WDTAB is it was more important for Lin that his fully Spanish song was nominated as it’s more reflective of the Latino setting than another catchy English song :man_shrugging:

NWH was good but I don’t think it necessarily deserves an Academy award. Its special effects were good but mostly just flashy action shots. Shang-Chi or Dune will most likely win over NWH.

“Dos Oruguitas” is a nice ballad, but it’s not really that amazing. Just a nice ballad. Whereas “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is a madrigal (how 'bout dat pun, eh?), which is far less commonplace and very impressive when pulled off as well as it was here.

Eh.

I don’t disagree, I was just stating why Dos Orugitas being nominated is more important.

The design wasn’t bad per se, but I still didn’t like it lol. It was just kind of an ugly, star-wars-ish feel. Which is not my style but I get that’s a personal preference

But yeah I agree the writing was not great, the characters felt kind of bland, it just wasn’t very strong I guess. I don’t think working from home had much to do with it, seeing Luca being quite successful

WDTAB still very evidently has Latin influences in its style and composition, while also being more unique, impressive and of course much more popular :man_shrugging:t2:

I don’t see why it should matter that much

Shang-Chi, I’d be fine with because it was a great movie but I’ve never seen Dune so idk

We all know @Musketeer-Endgame 's feelings on Luca.

Oh no, you’ve summoned his wrath lol :open_mouth:

Dune was fine but I feel that it was just another one of Warner Bros. attempts to upstage Disney.

This time their aiming for a Star Wars like franchise.

Yeah, I’m not keen to take his opinion on Luca all that seriously when he stans for objectively bad movies like Chicken Little and Home on the Range.

I can understand liking Black Cauldron despite its MANY flaws, but those other two are completely baffling.

I want Mitchells to win best animated feature, but there’s THREE Disney films in the running

I would’ve rooted for The Mitchells vs. The Machines if Encanto didn’t come out the same year. But then it’d be fighting a brutal slugfest with Luca for my vote.

Yeah, once I finished it I thought, “Well this is definitely winning the Oscars.”

And it deserves to. I am continually astonished at how incredible a movie Encanto is, and I’ve been a Disney fan for 30 years now.

…wow.
