Please Change the Trial Team for the Mulan Characters

Did nobody on the development team stop to think about how problematic the implications of this would be? @Polaris Please pass this along to them ASAP, because this… this isn’t right

It took me a second. Wow, that’s not good.

21st century, at finest.

They should belong in the Red team, to tie in with China’s main color

Or blue… this team didn’t get anybody new from longer time, IF change must happen.
But that’s still silly.

But blue only has ties to Mulan. And the red team is mainly for shield users, which Mulan and Shang use greatly

Yikes!

As a Chinese person I don’t know how to feel about this.

Yeah I think red would’ve been much better here.

Really people are being serious about this

Yes, because it is serious.

Yellow might be “suitable”.

Thing to pointing at are people it self, not flags.

I don’t understand what the complaint is about

It’s uncomfortable because labelling Asians as “yellow” is often used as derogatory slang. It’s obvious that it’s just somebody at PerBlue being oblivious, but it really should be changed to a different trial color. :upside_down_face:

This topic was flagged for some reason. It didn’t deserve to be, though

I wouldn’t say is “often” used :stuck_out_tongue: not here anyway.

It seems like quite a leap to get from that to a trial team colour designation :man_shrugging:t2: The original post is quite right, it’s highly unlikely any of the dev team would’ve considered this, probably because they’d never consider using that insult and it’s entirely unrelated anyway?

Genie is blue team and he actually is blue, where all the Genies asking for him to be moved

That isn’t a good comparison. Genie is literally blue, but Mulan nor Shang are yellow. Are you suggesting that they are?

That seems like a rude remark…

I am a child of two races and my girlfriend is Japanese (as an anime weeb that’s like dream come true) so I got to learn quite a lot about Asian culture. What I can say is that this is serious. Asians are often discriminated against, and now with COVID-19 we see a rise in racist attacks against them. However because many don’t retaliate, people think that it’s alright to continue. It’s not. I am honestly scared for my gf leaving the house. So you might think that this trial team color might seem like nothing serious but please dont. Would you be okay if we had a black trial team in the game and they put Dr. Facilier there? I wouldnt be. Sometimes games can provide the best way to learn to accept others for who they are, and they also provide strong messages that many people keep from their childhood. So it might make sense that they are in a yellow team for whichever team synergy reasons, but sometimes common sense must prevail. Changing them to Red would be the best option. This is not an overreaction. This is the right reaction.
As for the comment on the 21st century - part of being in a modern world is showing solidarity towards others and treating everyone equally and with respect. And while some of us might be rational enough to not associate Asians with a yellow color, some kids arent. If I post this in an Asian group I am part of on FB, the comments wouldnt be too welcoming.
Anyway, I gave you my case. Now it is up to you PB to either show us that you respect other cultures (which you already failed once by not calling Mulan as Fa Mulan - last names are so important in Asian culture and you just screwed it up) or keep them in a yellow team and continue reinforcing negative stereotypes.
P.S. Facilier analogy may not be the best but I hope you get the point I am trying to make with it.

I didn’t want to say anything on this thread, but it’s starting to go too far. Respectfully, I have to comment in defence of PB.

I’m really shocked people are taking so much offence to this. If it hadn’t been pointed out, would any of you have really thought of it in that light? No! You are creating this negative light.

The colour of the trial team has absolutely zero correlation to a character’s race. Yellow is just the organizational name of the trial team. That is it.

If there was a racist remark with the term yellow in their bio, I would completely understand the outrage, but it’s nothing like that!

Can we all just take a moment to recognize that nowhere does it say they are ‘yellow‘, it says the colour of their trial team is yellow. Not them. The trial team.

It makes sense for the slang term yellow to be taboo. Not the colour!

Do you also believe that someone of Chinese ethnicity should not be allowed to have yellow as their favourite colour? Or to wear a yellow shirt? It’s all the same mentality.

I hope not to offend anyone, but please, don’t throw balance, synergy and creativity to the wind just because you feel the need to turn an innocent use of a colour into something negative.

Hi man. I am from hongkong. Personally Asian. I love mulan in team yellow by the way. Yellow have alot of meanings in the world not just skin color. Yellow means brave and willing to fight for what you want in hongkong. I hope mulan and li shang stay in team yellow.

I agree with you. If they think team color=skin color =racist. Pb better change the team name instead of moving them out of team yellow.
