Steve was kind of a turn off for me.

They could have chosen any one else: Crash, Shantae, Doom Guy, and Master Chief among them. But no, they went with Steve.

They worked on Steve way longer than any other character, cut them some slack for wanting to please some people.

I put Banjo that low because he is garbage low tier, which is sad considering I was mildly hype about him being in. He wasn’t who I wanted but he was an addition I was looking forward to.

I’ll do it too! None of these characters were ever on my want list. But I’m not upset by them and I think a lot of them were very obviously joining. But I’m putting Piranha Plant in my list because he is DLC and it’s my favorite of them lol.

  1. Piranha Plant (Biggest surprise. Surprise characters are the best. I love being blown away by unexpected results. Never in a million years would’ve seen this coming. I was confused about the reveal too. I thought the bonus was a Piranha Plant item not a fighter. But it was so funny and unexpected. Piranha Plant even has a fun moveset.)

  2. Hero (I wanted a Dragon Quest rep but the fact we got four including my favorite, Hero VIII was so exciting.)

  3. Byleth (I don’t care about the whole “too many” argument. I think that’s a silly reason to get upset about too. I actually would’ve preferred it have been Edelgard since honestly Three Houses is mainly about her and Byleth is an emotionless, boring avatar. But I like their playstyle, love the music and stage they brought.

  4. Sephiroth (Sephiroth kind of falls in there with Byleth as in I wish it was a different character from that game. But in Sephiroth’s case, I wish it was a different game in the Final Fantasy series entirely. That series has so many games and characters that it’s a shame only one game got represented at all. I feel like a Chocobo would’ve at least represented the series a little better.)

  5. Joker (When Joker was first announced at the release of Ultimate, I never saw it coming[joke] and it just really made me feel like the doors were open. He’s such a cool character and I love the Persona series. Shin Megami Tensei is also fun. Honestly I think it would’ve been funner if they had Jack Frost as the rep instead of Joker.)

  6. Sora (He looks fun. Shame Terra’s theme or any Organization 13 battle music didn’t make it in.)

  7. Steve (Minecraft was definitely one of the most obvious additions to the game. With how successful Minecraft is there was no way it wasn’t getting added. But the fact Enderman and Zombie are playable made it so much more exciting. And the Steve combos are crazy to watch.)

  8. Pyra (As soon as a second DLC pack was announced I knew a Xenoblade 2 character was in. Sakurai said that Rex didn’t make the cut for the first pass which is why we got a Mii costume. But with a second one he was definitely in…or at least I thought.)

  9. Min Min (It’s cool the ARMs rep isn’t Spring Man…Boy? Idr. But the game doesn’t look interesting to me. I don’t think having Min Min in Smash will resurrect the dead franchise.)

  10. Kazuya (No personal attachment to this character. In fact, I find him kinda boring lol. I would’ve picked Kuma lol.)

  11. Terry (Terry is actually fun to play. But I personally don’t care about his franchise or character himself.)

  12. Banjo (Banjo always felt like a bandwagony character to me. Alongside Geno and Shantae. And I don’t really enjoy their playstyle.)

Looks like somebody despises Minecraft with every fiber of their being.

Steve was a character that I wanted for a while because he represents a major generation of gaming. It was perfect to include him, so why do you hate him so much?

Besides, if we going for both Classic Reps and Microsoft reps, Banjo was a very good choice. Still main em to this day.
