Simple Orange technically has 9 ranks = 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Red could have double that, technically 18 ranks = 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17
People keep forgetting Orange("+0"), Purple("+0"), Blue("+0") and Green("+0") ranks. Tho I admit long long ago, Blue was labelled as “B” not “B0” and Green was “G” not “G0” as well, but afaik that was during soft launch.

Okay, but then the “pattern” is:
White has 1 rank
Green has 2
Blue has 3
Purple has 5
Orange has 9
Red has 19
which isn’t really a pattern at that point, because there’s no longer a common theme repeated between the numbers. The pattern I made was just focusing on the max level for each rank:
White stops at +0
Green stops at +1
Blue stops at +2
Purple stops at +4
Orange stops at +8
Red SHOULD therefore stop at +16, but instead continues on to +18

White = 1
Green = White + White = 2
Blue = Green + White = 3
Purple = Blue + Green = 5
Orange = Purple + Blue + White = 9 (Orange badges generally do not include Green Bits)
Red = Orange + Purple + Blue + Green = 19 (requires generally lower bits as Purple, White badges not as often)
Keep in mind there are plans for Orange Badges and Purple Badges, while there aren´t for Red Badges at all

That does make some sense, although it seems like a really specifically detailed pattern to follow.

When I saw R17 I cringed… they just broke their almost three year pattern while we’re sitting here thinking we’re about to get yellows. Nice going.

That would be 1, 2,5, 9, then 18? I don’t think so.
I kinda think at this point it´s sort-of calculation. Like, I said myself I would stop raising some characters once the next rank is reached.
Seems like PB heard me two months ago and they keep dragging the Red. 
1… White
2x1 = 2… Green
1+2 = 3… Blue
2+3 = 5… Purple
1+3+5 = 9… Orange
2+3+5+9 = 19… Red
Yeah, but still. We were all awaiting the new color and now I have to break the news.
