Update 5.9-A Balancing Update

Context Surrounding Balance Changes

Our deep dive into the core stats of the game at the end of last year yielded a lot of learnings that we’ll be implementing in 2024. One of the primary things that became clear to us is that many Heroes simply just have more stats than they need to be useful.

This problem quickly compounded on itself as new Heroes (and Hero Refreshes) constantly needed to catch up to what had become the new norm for Hero stats to be considered relevant. This led to a clear distinction between Heroes that “have” the stats needed, and those that don’t.

In the coming months we’ll be doing more large balance passes like the one that happened this week. You won’t see too many fine tuning type adjustments in these initial rounds of changes. Our primary focus will be on removing the bloated stats in Red Skill and Memory Disk Stat Boosts as well as the over inflated scaling values in individual Hero Skills. We strongly feel that this is the most important change to implement first which will then give way for more curated adjustments to Heroes in the future.

These balance passes are essentially done in two phases. Phase one includes adjusting the Stat Boosts from Red Skills and Memory Disks to healiter values. Phase two includes going through all the Hero’s Skills and adjusting them based on the newly updated stats.

With that said, you’ll notice some instances of Skill values being labeled as “increased” in the changes below. In most cases these are not true increases over the previous values but rather increases to scaling values during Phase two of the balance process.

We hope this is a helpful insight into our plans for Hero balance moving forward and we can’t wait to get more changes into your hands during future Patch Seasons. This is intensive work that touches every Skill in the game so we appreciate your patience and feedback along the way to get the game into a healthier state.

Below is a sneak peak of future batches of hero re-balancing we’ll be working on in the near future. We’ve tied them to Patch Seasons to allow you to test them out in a controlled environment in Franchise Trials, so you can see how the changes will affect gameplay.

Balancing efforts are not limited to the below batches; we are still working on grouping up the different franchises affected by last year’s power creep! As stated before, balancing is a constant effort, so there will be continued tweaks and adjustments even after we have done the major balancing efforts.

Cool. 2 more months of Eda being OP. While other good counters or toons that help in lines against her like Miguel, Kuzco, Dante and Tron will get nerfed to the ground before she gets updated.

Thanks for the changes. It’s weird to see some heroes like Kim get nerfed when she’s never used.

Please move Jungle Book to Patch 17. It and Owl House are the most problematic franchises. I understand why not Owl House since Luz is new.

Glad Tron, Sally, Dante, and Kuzco are getting nerfs next. Too overtuned.

When considering the changes, please think about buffing some disks. Flik has 5 stats while others have 1 stat. Thank goodness Flik was balanced out, because he gave too many of every single stat.

These seasons should be switched. Jungle and Owl House are the biggest reasons for disbalance now. And add Dante, Miguel doesn’t even need much of nerf.

Just Tron needs nerf here while Kevin and Quorra buff, also would be better if after the switch they join S17.

NOBODY ASKED TO DECREASE RON’S SLOW. It wasn’t even that OP.

All armor and reality nerfs were too much. After whole rebalance everyone will die in 1 hit with such low HP, and no armor and reality, while damage is 10-60B.

Of all the decreased values, maybe it’s time for you to start expanding cooldowns, and adding warmups to the heroes to keep the game even more balanced.

They’re waiting to nerf owl house until their next hero release comes out I assume - aka when their current money makers (mostly luz id assume) have died off a bit in hype.

At least they took the time to outline when to expect Eda’s nerf, even if it was in a bit of a roundabout way.

Also, it’s nice they’re nerfing jungle book in the same month as well - they’re essentially hitting all the extremely overpowered heroes in 3 months which is as good as we could have possibly hoped for.

I suggest some of yall take up some breathing exercises or something idk

Yeah definitely switch Owl House and Jungle Book with… probably Nightmare Before Christmas and Pirates. A bit worried about Sally with all the broken heroes going but at least it’s dot so it can be blocked with debuff immunities.

Posting the details of the balances is good in theory but in this format it basically just says that every hero had everything reduced :man_shrugging:

It might be helpful for our understanding to also use an arbitrary scale based roughly on the actual adjustments, to demonstrate buff/nerf amount per hero - eg. (not accurate)

Rose: -10
Kim: -4
Buffed hero: +3
Very buffed hero: +10

etc…

It’s frustrating because Eda has been the most broken hero in the game since she was introduced, and maybe the most broken ever. But at least Luz and Shere Khan will help counter her.

Which leads me to ask, once again: Please don’t allow Eda, Luz, or Shere Khan to be off duty in War until they’ve been rebalanced.

Good to know Jungle Book and Owl House heroes will be broken for a longer time period.

Anyway, I think you overdid the nerfs.

I asked for maxed disks to give around 1x base stats. Now they only give 1/10x to 1/15x of base stats instead of 1000x.

You could have done better then nerf a lot of heroes just for eda to be op grillfather

If you put had put Owl House in patch 17 (exchanged with in example Pirates) it would have been pretty decent (I know you don’t because of Luz). Up until now all you’ve done is nerfing just about all of Edas counters, and she is most definitely one of the most broken toons of all. Would be nice if the few good counter toons that are left would be taken out of Off Duty circulation until it is all done.

It is probably a step in right direction though. Fun to see where we are at when these are done.

It was just fine before but I totally agree

Yeah I’m definitely feeling this a bit in the patch trials. Most of the adjusted heros are proving a little fragile even though the enemy pool is tailored. I haven’t been able to beat the unity trial level I want despite being previously capable the last couple seasons. Everyone is just dying too fast.

Li Shang and Mushu(Ge) haven’t been rebalanced yet; either or both of them might prove useful.
